Lieutenant Lane served as Adjutant of the 4th Texas Mounted volunteers, known as the 1st Regiment of the Sibley Brigade. He was at the Battle of Valverde and was wounded at the Battle of Glorieta Pass. He continued to serve the regiment in Texas and Louisiana. After the war he was a lawyer, state senator, and judge in Texas.
